The Hochburg Castle near Emmendingen was one of the most important military complexes in Baden-Württemberg. The remnants of the castle walls are spread across three levels, from the lowest fortification wall all the way up to the imposing upper castle. Construction began in the 11th century. Expansion and upgrading continued for more than half a millennium. In 1688 the castle was taken by the French and destroyed.

What's nice about that ruin is that it's not kept clinical and 'safe' like most of them in the UK.
Ivy on the walls and some piles of rubble where they fell.
We have some unkempt ones too but not on that scale.

What I liked is the central hall had a smooth level floor and could be used to hold events like weddings.

Beautiful video!
I watched it a couple of times, freezing the video in various spots to admire and marvel at the amount of engineering and planning that went into the construction of this castle.
When you consider how long ago this was built with the simple tools they had at the time, it becomes even more amazing.
Thanks!!
