Greetings all. I was playing with some settings on my mini 3 pro and noticed that the codec only lists h.265 and no option for h.264 whether set to normal or d-cinelike. Has anyone else noticed this and is it a fault? Cheers Geoff

Just checked mine...

In normal video: I have h.264 with no option for h.265. I do have options for 'normal' and 'D-cinelike'.

In 'Slo-mo' the camera settings alter, in this mode: there are the options for both h.264 and h.265 in either 'normal' or 'D-cinelike'.

But I haven't updated the firmware in a couple of years

In the past, certain settings (such as 60fps) will only be available in H.265. The H.264 was only available at lower shutter speeds such as 30 or 24 fps. There are other settings that it affects as well but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head (possibly HDR or other color modes). Once it changes to H.265 because of one of the triggered setting, you will have to go back and change it to H.264 manually because it won't do do on it's own. (At least that is the way it used to be)

I noticed that on my Mavic 4 Pro when I first received it. Have to check the above as mentioned by MavicAir2Marc.

Thank you. I will have a look at frame rate settings. I have recently changed to 60fps in an attempt to reduce stutter, even on slow turns.

Thank you. Yes, at 60fps, only 265 is available. 264 is available at 30fps

If you haven't already, try manually changing the setting to H.264. Once you use a frame rate or resolution that triggers H.265, you have to manually reset the codec even if you go back to an H.264 capable setting.

In terms of what is often called judder be sure you do not put that 60 frames into a 24 frame timeline

H265 is more efficient allowing lower bit rates and therefore smaller file sizes. It requires more work from the computer so older machines have a hard time with it and can require longer rendering and choppy playback (dropped frames) for older computers. Many cameras today only use H265 because it is more efficient providing that smaller file size at a reasonable bit rate but that does make it more difficult for those with older machines. If you have a newer computer (any M series Mac or fast PC) not much reason to use H264 that I can see...except...if you are sharing it to somebody with an older machine. Educate me if I'm missing something.
