Hello,

I’m encountering a serious issue with one of my DJI OFFICIAL Plus Batteries (3850 mAh). While flying, the battery level unexpectedly drops from 100% to 0%, causing several warnings in the DJI Fly app:

  • Limited battery power
  • Aircraft performance reduced
  • Battery communication error
  • Critical battery level — charge immediately
  • Automatic landing initiated
The battery level sometimes recovers briefly but then drops again, repeating this cycle. Ultimately, the drone triggers a Forced Landing mode, leaving me no choice but to land immediately.

This battery is 9 months old, has been used for 27 cycles, and has always been charged slowly and stored properly in storage mode. My other batteries don’t show any signs of similar problems.

Would this battery qualify for warranty replacement? I should mention that it was purchased brand new from a third-party seller on eBay Germany, not through an official DJI store.

I’d appreciate any guidance on how to proceed.

Thank you,

Raul

I was thinking about getting the Mini 4 Pro, but I am reading a lot of problems with it. Mostly firmware, but DJI will probably have a fix for that. Now a battery problem. Could it be related to the firmware? Maybe I will wait and see if these issues clear up before I buy.

I just wanted to clarify that my DJI Mini 4 pro works perfectly, and I’m very satisfied with it. The issue is solely with this Plus battery, which is a compatible DJI Mini 3 too. I’m confident in DJI’s ability to resolve firmware-related issues quickly, so hopefully, that won’t deter you.

Thanks,
Raúl

Did not realize the problems were with the large batter. Not interested in the big battery, so maybe I should reconsider.

The BMS inside your batterie could be bad. DJI would replace it if that is the case BUT maybe you have a dirty connector on the battery?

Thank you very much for your help! I have cleaned the connector as you suggested, but unfortunately, the issue persists. I believe the battery might be defective. I should mention that it is an official DJI battery, not a clone from another manufacturer, but it was purchased from a third-party seller in Germany through eBay. Could you please guide me on how to initiate the return process to DJI for repair or replacement? I would really appreciate your assistance.

To be clear, there isn't some common, known problem with the larger capacity battery. I have 2, and they work flawlessly. Same for most other owners.

This thread is about a faulty unit, nothing remarkable.

The M4P is a fantastic drone.

I just experienced this exact issue with a plus battery I recently got directly from DJI on a warranty exchange for a different battery issue. My first thought was firmware issue as I just updated this week to the latest. I have had no issues to this point and the drone is 15 months old.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s interesting to hear that you encountered the same issue with a Plus battery, especially since yours was received directly from DJI through a warranty exchange.

Do you happen to know if DJI resolved the issue for you? Was it indeed related to a firmware update, or did they confirm it was a battery defect? Any details you could share would be really helpful as I try to figure out the next steps with my own case.

Thanks again for your time!

Best regards,
Raúl

I flew the battery again today and had to do an emergency landing with 50% battery remaining.. The drone went into landing mode about 400ft away across the street behind houses along a drainage ditch. Upon landing I had no response on the controller. When I retrieved the drone it was was still powered on . I loaded the flight to airdata and had the following warnings:

Critical low battery
Battery temperature too low
Battery communication error

I flew two more flights with other batteries and had no issues. So now I believe the issue is with the battery. I opened up a service request application with DJI. The battery is now on its way to the DJI repair center in Fort Worth Texas.

Hi! I have the same exact issue with one of my plus batteries (I have 3 total, from the fly more kit). I confirmed it's only the one battery, so I opened a ticket and will be sending it to DJI today. What ever happened with your issue?

DJI confirmed the battery was detective but out of warranty. They wanted to bill me for a new which is $95. I declined that offer and pressed them on the issue. They offered a 50% discount which I was happy with. I placed order on January 4th but has yet to ship. I contacted via online chat this week. They said the battery is out of stock due to global demand and no idea when the battery would be available. I will wait it out and update here when I get the battery.

I ordered a Mini 4 Pro in early January and added a Plus battery to the order. I received the drone in three days (from China to US). The Plus has been on back order since then.

Last week, I placed a separate order for just the battery -it wasn't showing as out of stock, so I thought I'd just order it and cancel the original January purchase. Even though it said it would ship in two days, a week later I got an apology email AND a phone call (!) saying it would be delayed further.

I cancelled BOTH and ordered one via Amazon... I hate Amazon... I received it in two days. Of note: sales screen said it was a "Mini 4 Pro / Mini 3" battery but upon receipt, the box labels said "Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro. AND... the manufactured date was three years ago 2022. Not even a minimal charge... Neither DJI charger recognized the battery-wouldn't charge it. I use a third party quick charge trick to coax some voltage above 3W for each cell and the DJI chargers recognized them as valid. Basically the batteries were shelved for so long that the discharge below the "sleep" level. I'm on the fourth recharge cycle and all is well. However I put Amazon on notice that the battery will be returned, expecting a full refund if performance deteriorates. FWIW, I've done the flash charge on a number of RC LiPo batteries (on RC Cars) and never had issues with subsequent below par performance.... so I'm optimistic.

I think DJI is having issues with production given the possible tariffs. It's giving their Amazon warehousing an opportunity to drain the supply. Personal opinion, not based on any know fact. :)

I got tired of waiting and did the same canceling my order with DJI. Ordered Plus battery from B&H and receiving in a couple of days. The battery I received was only 6 months old and there are no issues.

In the future, this is a really bad idea, and is in fact illegal. Drones like any aircraft must be Inspected before flight, and can not fly if there are any problems that would interfere with safe operations. This certainly qualifies.

If that failing battery had gone belly up and the drone caused injury, you might face criminal as well as civil charges.

Keep that in mind, everyone, when you knowingly fly a drone that anything's not 100% working properly. Even change a prop blade that has nothing more than a tiny nick on the end. If you're too cheap to keep 2 replacement sets of blades in your kit, you're too cheap for this hobby.
