Motion Controller with Mini 4 Pro Question

Just tried out the Motion Controller 3 with Goggles 3 (using head tracking) and the Mini 4 Pro. Love how the movement of the drone mimicks the movement of the Motion Controller when trigger is squeezed (to move forward/back). I hadn't realized that the only way to get the drone to rotate is by moving the motion controller. Am I correct in assuming that the only way to have the drone ascend and descend is by moving the mini joystick forward or back on the Motion controller? Or is there a way to ascend/descend also by moving the motion controller a certain way like when rotating it? Thank you.
