Does anyone just use a lanyard from their necks to support the controller
Leaving the Mavic controller free, light in weight of holding it?

Somewhat related... When using the crystal sky, I mount it on a tripod. This leaves me holding only the feather light controller
You could w wear the glasses and put the pad on a makeshift stand of some sort

I have it on a lanyard and some times let it drop leaving my hands free. However as the duration of the flight is only around 25 minutes and I need to manipulate the drone controls of course I do not find it fatiguing in any way. Or did you mean to let the Glasses controller to hang on the lanyard? You would be left with just the Mavic controller to hold which would reduce the weight in your hands. This is not a bad idea possibly a bit tricky with trailing leads between controller and controller and fiddly if you did a lot of menu changing whilst flying.
