Well, the bird fell out of the sky.
I was doing a well planned mission for the Local Government of Benin City (mapping some communities for a development project) and to have all in one battery, the elevation was set to 215 meters.
I've started the mission, did 60 (of the 100) photos when I got an alarm "returning for battery change" although I had still 59%.
I saw the image on my iPad rotating like hell and that's it.
Lost connection
You have to understand that I'm in a very rural area (but with my mandatory escort) and I'm most likely the first white man entering that community in years.
Anyway, my Community Relations Officer explained and gave his number to recover the damage drone.
We left but before we left the village, big commotion and we had to go back. They found the drone. I thought that it is at least handy to open a new "Care Refresh Case" but when I saw the Mavic, it was almost undamaged. One leg was over another and one blade was missing. Further.... No scratch. It was even still on. Although I couldn't connect.
I took it back to the office..... and check. Everything was still working.
Again, it was flying at 215 meters high and the highest building was only 3 meters and the highest tree, maybe 6.
I have enough propeller blades so no problem there. I can't fly now to test because heavy rain. This evening re-calibrate the bird and I'm guessing I'm extremely lucky this time.
Although I have to redo the mapping next week

To be continued

Well I hope it turns out ok. Was good they found it right away .

Also glad to hear you found it. Hope it works.

Some questions if you don't mind:
* How long were you flying, any chance it was much less than 59% battery remaining and it was just being reported incorrectly? 5-10 minutes or was it possibly more like 20?
* What kind of RTH settings did you have? Do you think it went nuts right before or after RTH initiated, if at all? Did it spin just to point home, or spin a lot of times like it was going nuts?
* How far away from the controller was the Mavic, and what sort of signal did you have before this happened?

I am NOT trying to hint you did something wrong. I suspect you know more and have flown more than I have. I'm just curious when I see a frightening issue like this to learn what if anything I can do to make sure it doesn't happen to me as well. I suspect others might learn too.

Just did a complete calibration and all came out well. Calibrated the IMU as well and did a small flight. Only thing I noticed is that the left rear bracket has a little play. Might warm that up so the play is gone. Better (i hate rattle)

Your questions make sense. But I can't answer them. The battery was 59%. And I was about 700 meters away from the remote. No buildings, just bush. Anyway. I hope to recover some data and tomorrow see if my flight path was recorded in Map Pilot.

I was able to recover some flight data from AirData and as you can see, all communication to the drone was 100% and the elevations was 212 meters high. I think the issue must have been the compass. Their is a small issue with the right rear leg but not enough to stop flying.
Further.... the Mavic flies fine, camera works perfect and no issues what so ever....

Think you may have thrown a propeller blade? That spin rate and the fact it is mostly undamaged from that height would make me think it fell slowly while spinning cause it had one motor not producing thrust... just a thought
