I recently purchased a Mini 3 and RC remote. I could've gotten a more expensive model, but the Mini 3 is so much of an improvement over my 1st-generation Mavic Mini.

One of the things I particularly like is the RC remote with a screen. Now, I don't have to hassle with hooking up my cell phone. However, I have learned that you still need to have your cell phone with you ... if you intend to use a map on the screen.

Apparently, the RC controller needs the phone's WiFi / 5G in order to connect to the maps. The first time I flew, I had left my phone in the car, and when I tapped on the little box at the lower left of RC's screen, I got a blank screen instead of a map. So, I did some research and found that you should have your phone with you, and set it as a WiFi Hotspot.

Believe me, the map has saved my butt many times when I lost sight of my drone and was able to guide it safely home, using the same path it went out on. ;)

Don't know where your drone is, don't know how to fly it home?
No map needed.
Learn to use the radar display.
Switch it on ...

It shows you the drone is out there in the distance.
Rotate the drone until the drone icon is pointing to home.

Then fly towards home, watching the distance as it comes back.

You are in the US, how are you losing sight of your drone so many times that you need a map to get it home? You're probably doing something wrong if this is the case and if it is that desperate of a situation, the RTH button is the answer. This function will start to get your drone back in the right direction and close enough for the pilot to establish command and control over your drone. It's a drone not an RC plane, personally I don't understand all the "flying" around BVLOS leading to so much confusion. Did you happen to take the TRUST?

Rogue gusts of wind are prevalent here.
