My Flight Record & question.

Heck ya you are! Thumbswayup

Hope you have another 114 Flights without issue!

Thanks, but I accidentally uploaded that before I was done. Couldn't find a way to delete or edit. But yeah, 114 flights, 13.75 miles, 9:15 hrs. Not a single problem. Out of the box, never calibrated anything. And I've been flying no farther than 20 miles from my home.

Question is, when do I need to calibrate compass, IMU?

Calibrate when prompted by the DJIGO4 app. There will be a message on screen within the app if compass calibration is needed.

Always determine the direction within the Maps shown within the DJIGO4 app that the Mavic is pointed after powering up. The end of the arrow within the map should always point in the direction that the Mavic is actually pointing.\

If it does not point in the proper direction then more than likely you have powered up the Mavic over an area of reinforced concrete or similar. The rebar will distort the magnetic fields and create an issue.

Oh, if you travel farther away than 50 miles away it is suggested to calibrate the compass. This is a suggestion and not a hard rule.

If your bird doesn’t ask you to recalibrate or give a warning, and has not been in a crash, just fly. Many users relate being asked at intervals or for the compass, if you changed TO location > 50 miles.

@BD0G ... you beat me to it!

IMU is obviously functioning as it should so I personally would not fix what is not broken. If you detect lots of drift when the Mavic should be in a perfect hover then it should be considered.

Wait a minute. You are a Mavic 2 flyer and have never been prompted to calibrate the compass by the DJIGO4 app? This seems crazy as there is a forced message every 30 days when you are flying the Mavic 2.

Its not so with the standard Mavic Pro.

Checking my home point on map is part of my take off check list. It's always been spot on. Briefly lost vlos in redwoods once, brought it back to vlos using map.

I love this Aerial photo platform.

Fly safe, have fun

You did the right thing! Just use the arrow on the map to fly back towards the Home Point until the Mavic is within VLOS once again. Thanks for playing by the rules! We need more like you!

Sorry, thought I was in M2P country. Yes, I'm a M2P owner. It takes updates occasionally but I've never been prompted to calibrate anything.

You are in M2P Country ! LOL. It is me that is crossing borders. A prolific member here SAR104 discovered that there is a 30 day prompt to calibrate the compass on the Mavic 2 Pro. Thats why Im confused.

Maybe never.
If it's flying properly there's no need to recalibrate anything.

That would only be a suggestion from someone that doesn't understand what compass calibration actualy does.
There's no need to recalibrate anything whether you are 10 miles from home or 1000 miles.

Yesterday I was prompted before taking off to calibrate the compass (and after on the IMU too).
I think, I put the drone prior to launch for check up on reinforced concrete (however I prefer to hand launch and land) or maybe the nearby substation could be the reason why.

But it will tell you, to do it, when it's time. So don't worry, if you don't see it, there's no need to do it. ;)

If you think the app is telling you to re-calibrate the compass, think again and check where you have put the drone.
About 99% of the time, it will be the compass warning that you've put it very close to something steel (like on reinforced concrete).
Recalibrating the compass won't fix that problem and the correct action is to shut down the drone and move it taway from what the compass is warning you about.

@Meta4
I could not launch, as it displayed the compass warning in the upper section.
I did not restart it but after the calibration process and a recommended restart, all was fine. However I did not put the drone on the ground anymore, could be the reason why.

The calibration was unnecessary.
Restarting with the drone off the problem spot was all it needed.
