Exactly the right and only thing to do. Straight up full throttle for 5 seconds will make the bird realise it isn't a natural prey or intruder. No natural bird can ascend straight up. That's the only advantage it has over a bird, it wouldn't be able to outrun a bird of prey, not even in sports mode.
