I went to a place where there was no wifi. It said I couldn't fly because I wasn't logged in. I had just flown at my house where there is wifi. So I emailed DJI Support about this. This is their reply:

For the flight, yes it requires internet connection and good GPS signal. Without the internet the RC or the app cannot be linked to the drone. If the RC supports USB inputs, then you may connect the mobile phone to the RC and to the internet.

So is it true that now you always need an internet connection to fly? I know this wasn't true before, this is a big deal!

Which drone and which RC?
Once you logged in at home after, are you still unable to fly away from your home Wifi?

Pardon me but I would like to see the question you asked please.

NO. You need a connection to "log in" but if you did that at home where you had one, there should be no reason why you cant fly. If you logged out and then tried to fly without internet thats a problem If you were logged in already you shouldnt have a problem. You don't need the internet to fly. Perhaps the map needed updating or something but I have flown many times without a wi-fi connection to the net.

I fly in places without internet connection all the time, no issues at all.

Believe or not it's no longer there. Maybe they deleted it. But to paraphrase:

"I flew at my house with no problem, where I have wifi. Then I went over to another apartment I rent about a mile away, where I have no wifi. It said I couldn't fly because I wasn't logged in."

I had a phone with data so I created a Hotspot and was able to fly after that.

I didn't login at my house but it didn't ask me too.

That you couldn't fly at all is strange... usually you will only be limited in height & distance.

Below writing in the user manual exist for most DJI models...

Did you check in the profile section in the app if you were logged in or not ?

I know I've flown thousands of times with no internet connection. I going on a trip on December 15th so I want to make sure everything's working properly. Before Sunday I hadn't flown in months. My mini 3 pro did ask me to login today.

Thousands? How long have you been flying DJI drones? How often a week on average?

There is a time limit set by DJI where it will automatically log you out. From most posts it is around a month give or take. It has happened to me once. So I make sure to log-in at lease every other week just to be safe. I have never had the problem again. If I will be traveling some distance or where I suspect there will be no service, I log out then back in again to refresh the timer and know that I will be good on my trip.

You said you flew before leaving the house. Is it possible if it has been sometime since you last logged, that between the time you left your house and arrived at the new location, the timer logged you out. Or by chance, did you manually log out when you finished flying.

You need to log in from time to time (not sure of how often) to avoid being restricted in height and distance. This happened to me once in a remote part of Idaho.
I have been logged out by DJI from time to time too over the years, I don't remember how many days of inactivity or whatever they use. I suppose you could check the settings on your device or whatever to make sure your account is logged in that should give you at least 30 days of inactivity.... if you are logged in I dont think the app asks you too, If you arent I pretty sure it does.

I found my original question to DJI. Here it is: The storage full message turned out to be because my 8gig internal memory was full so I fixed that. Then no more message.

I flew my Mavic 3 Pro for the first time in over 4 months. I have to admit I didn't take proper care of it during this time. It was uncovered and got very dusty and dirty. I cleaned it off with a wet cloth. So I took it outside and it sent my phone a text to unlock the airport. I did a short test flight. The only problem was there was a message in a brown box saying storage full, even though in settings it showed over 200 gig of storage. But it recorded OK.
Now I have a new apartment about a mile from my house which has no wifi. When I tried to fly it said not logged in. Obviously I'm not always going to be flying places where there's no internet. Fortunately I had my phone that has internet, and I created a Hotspot which allowed me to fly.
My main problem was the video kept stopping. It just froze up in till I landed. When I landed, it would start working again. But it froze up about 5 times. As you know this is not acceptable.
I sprayed my SD card and it's socket with contact cleaner, but this didn't help. I think I had this problem before, and the solution was to switch to the built in memory and then back to the SD card. I will try that.

But the main two problems are the video freezing and needing internet to fly when it's saying I'm not logged in.

I’ve flown mine millions of times, but that doesn’t really matter- the poor guy is asking for help with his grounded bird due to not being logged in…
I've been flying DJI drones since June 2017 when I bought my Mavic Pro. I've flown in many countries and locations. Sometimes when I'm home, I fly 4 batteries a day of out of range way point missions, while I'm watching TV. But after having one lost, and two accidents doing that, I've stopped.

My main problem was the video kept stopping.
using your phone as a "hotspot" maybe and other networks around you would be a more likely explanation.
I used to stream music on an Iphone in my shirt pocket while flying,, I got a noticeable lag and stopped streaming while in flight..might be whats happening too you.
