New Drone and Mavic Mini User

Welcome to the forum from the deserts of Arizona! Enjoy.

Two tips: read the full online only 60 page DJI manual for your new drone and practice in a large completely open area until controls and drone response to them is second nature.
Get the referenced manual and othe good stuff here:

Watch out for folks that look at drones as something that spying on them. A lot of uneducated folks out there as I can attest. See my post elsewhere. I'd suggest keep it high if in town, find a big field or head for the country! The mini will find its way home from 400 feet no problem! I'm new to drones and my Mini has over 100 flights. Best advice, don't fly down wind on windy days and if any doubt what to do, let go of both sticks. It'll hover till you figure out what to do.

Welcome to Mavic Pilots! :) Enjoy the forum!Thumbswayup

Welcome.
You might want to read some of the Mavic Mini flyaway and crash threads to learn from other's mistakes.

Big thing for a new pilot. Wind.
Wind at ground level can be 2mph and at 100ft gusting to 20mph. Just an example. So going high with such a light and low powered drone is risky. A good portion of mini crashes are related to that simple fact. Sending it way up and then feeling like it's not responding to controls as the wind over powers it.

Good luck. Read up. And enjoy!

Welcome buddy

Download UAV forecast and trust it- wind is a lot faster the higher you go!
Practice practice practice
stay low and gain height slowly
go for the biggest open space you can find with NO obstacles
check your RTH height at the start of every flight
follow DJI warnings
respect others nearby and if you're unlucky enough to get a confrontation, ask them to wait whilst you land your drone, talk to them rationally and show them the footage- they might not realise you can't read their watch from 100m up!!!
keep the cage on if there is anything nearby you might hit
but most importantly... enjoy ;)

Welcome to the forum. I also fly a MM and have enjoyed many flights. Read the manual and gradually fly further out as your confidence builds. You will find helpful suggestions and advice. We look forward to your view of the world.
