I just purchased the Mavic and live in Washington state. At first I was excited because Washington state is a beautiful state to video from the air. I purchased all the equipment that I need with the excitement and anticipation of flying on my first day off from work. Of course I have a very good job and I am responsible so I want to abide by all the laws and regulations of the state and federal jurisdiction. Keeping us in mind, imagine my confusion when looking for a place to fly that is not restricted. Imagine my amazement and disappointment after downloading apps that are supposed to show you the restrictions and flying areas, noticing that according to these apps the entire state is a restricted area. I live in Tacoma and I see plenty of video on the Internet better shot in the Tacoma area , yet all I see in these areas are multiple restricted zones overlapping each other on almost every inch of the map. Am I missing something here, or did I just waiste a pile of money on a craft I can't fly within a hundred miles of the city ??? Is there anyone out there who can guide me into some places to fly within the city so I can at least get used to my craft without having to drive to another state .
Thanks ,

Welcome to Mavic Pilots! :)

Imagine my amazement and disappointment after downloading apps that are supposed to show you the restrictions and flying areas, noticing that according to these apps the entire state is a restricted area.
While there are some no fly zones and heliports around Tacoma, the majority of Washington is not restricted. Check out AirMap for more details in your flying locations.

Also, if you look here on DJI's website, you can find all locations where your Mavic will not allow you to fly and/or will prompt you to unlock using your DJI account. In the image below, the red circles are the restricted areas and the yellow circles are the areas you'll need to unlock.

Thanks for your response. These appear to be a better, less confusing representation of the restricted areas. Thanks Again, PB44

Hello,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Mavic Pilots forum.
I hope that you will be able to use the forum to further your safety knowledge and for the exchange of innovative ideas and as a resource for
current developments in Mavic quadcopter’s.

I like AirMap.io to check the areas.

Enjoy! Thumbswayup
