Expecting my Mavic 2 Pro arrival this week. New to drones, having only flown a toy helicopter around the house. I've downloaded and am reading all the pertinent PDFs, and looking at the tutorials. So, my first question here on the forum is: How "ready" will the system be right out of the box, vs how much setup is required? Would someone please reply with the basic steps of activation, calibration, firmware updates, etc.? I realize I took a giant leap with the Mavic 2 Pro for a first drone, but I'm a retired (image scientist) engineer and pretty confident I can learn the ropes. I'm also pretty sure I'd regret getting a less capable model and then would have felt the need to upgrade!

The drone will be ready to fly out of the box. When you activate the drone in DJI GO, you'll be prompted to set up a few settings. Beyond that, you can explore the other settings in DJI GO and make changes as needed. DJI maintains a DJI GO manual online here.

Make sure you download and read the full Mavic 2 manual before attempting to fly. You can find it on the Mavic downloads page. In addition to those manuals, you can find some other must-have items here.

You shouldn't need to calibrate anything out of the box. Calibration instructions can be found here. Firmware installation instructions can be found here.

You will need to update firmware. Download DJI Assistant 2 and update the firmware on your computer instead of wasting battery juice. Keep in mind the battery is intelligent and will also need firmware updates. If you have multiple batteries, be sure to swap them out and reconnect to the computer. You should calibrate the compass and IME. Don't forget to update firmware on the controller.

Take your time and don't be a rush to get it into the air. Take a couple of nights to check everything at home. Start it up with props disconnected and connect the a/c to the controller and play around with the DJI Go app which you will use on your phone/tablet device to fly with.

When you do start flying, find a big open empty field and take is easy for the first few flights.

Thanx, RCdancer… that's excellent advice. I've already downloaded the complete user manual, GO app and Assistant 2, and watched the video tutorials. I don't plan to rush into it, just one step at a time. I kinda figured I'd need to do a bunch of setting up and firmware updates so that will keep me busy the first few days. Looking fwd to it!

Excellent resources, thanx! Just watched Jeven Dovey's 31-minute "getting started" video, now I'm really psyched!
