Good evening all :)

Ive just purchased my first drone (Dji Mavic Air 2) and I’m would like to ask you knowledgeable people a few questions that im confused about?.

• what class is the air 2
• what licence/qualifications do I need
• do I need insurance

I apologise for my lack of knowledge :/.

I’ve passed the CAA theory exam so have my Operator ID and Flyer ID.

Thank you in advanced

Hello from the Crossroads of America piggy24.

Nice to meet you Chris. ?

I'm across the pond, so to speak, and I can't help you with the UK regulations.

But I can welcome you to the Forum. ?

The Air 2 is Clas A2.

A1 - drones weighing less than 250g (0.55lb) can be flown over people
A2 - drones weighing more than 250g but less than 2kg must be flown at least 50m (164ft) away from people
A3 - drones weighing more than 2kg must be flown well away from people
UK-based users are still required to have passed the CAA's official theory test and to have obtained a flyer ID to be allowed to fly any drone weighing over 250g within 150m of people.

Do I need insurance to fly a drone? If you are a commercial drone operator in the UK, you are legally required to hold public liability insurance. It is highly recommended that hobby pilots also hold 3rd party public liability insurance for recreational drone flying.

If you are using a drone weighing more than 250 grams and need to fly closer than 150 metres from a built-up area, you will need either an A2 Certificate of Competency (when using drones less than 2kg) or an Operational Authorisation (when using drones more than 2kg but less than 25kg).

welcome to the forum, the easiest way to get third party cover for recreational use, is to join a recognised organisation such as the BMFA or FPVUK, who's membership gives third party insurance cover as part of membership ,this is only for recreational use, commercial use requires a specialised type of insurance ,and also the A2CofC, .is a worthwhile addition to have, as it will be a requirement to fly the new C rated drones after the end of 2022, its like the CAA's theory test, lasts for five years from the date of passing ,but it does cost money to obtain ,and covers a lot more subjects ,that give you a good knowledge base to build on+
