I'm looking to buy a Mini Pro 4, and there's so many scammers out there that I'm hesitant to take a chance on-line. I (like so many others), am on the watch/notify list for it on the DJI site, but it seems they don't get many in for the Refurb Sale site. What are the MAIN things to watch for on used ones, for someone who's never flown one?

I believe the general rules continue to apply, if the deal looks too good to be true (especially from a pricing perspective) then it probably is....and I would avoid the risk.

For me, it's quite a chunk o' change to pay $1100 for a new with RC-2 and Fly More kit, and saving a couple hundred bucks for a used one that someone hardly used (or is upgrading to another drone), sorta was plausible. I know the too-good-to-be-true pricing is ALWAYS avoided on used stuff. Looking for suggestions on where to find them, really.

A few thoughts.
Why the Mini4Pro? Several other DJI products out there on the used market from several reputable places.
Risk may depend on what avenue you use for payment and the refund method attached to that transaction.

From all the looking I've done, the mini pro 4 and the RC2 seems to fit the needs I have for features (obstacle avoidance, picture quality, auto features, etc.) The flyi-more package provides the accessories I need to get off the ground quickly.

DJI refurb drones are often better quality than used drones so don't forget to check those in places like amazon.com. The classified section in this forum is also a good place to buy used drones.

I would go for refurb'ed units over used ones. The problem with used is you don't really know the back story behind the drone and if it's been in any mishaps. Even minor crashes can leave hairline fractures or damage to the internals that you may not notice right away until you have it at home. With no warranty, there's no recourse.

@Powerguy: I saw quite a few M4Ps on Facebook Marketplace and our version of eBay. I think quite a few people buy them and realise they don't have the skills or interest, so there's definite bargains. I think if it can be demonstrated it's done few hours (as per the log) and the seller seems genuine, it's an opportunity for a deal although not without risks.
I'd do it if they weren't on special in New Zealand recently, which narrowed the price difference. (I bought one for myself for Christmas since Santa's a meanie...)

If you're going to buy from a private party, meet face to face and let the seller fly it before you buy it.
Why let the seller fly it? If they crash it on a test flight, it's on their dime.
If they hand you a faulty drone and it crashes while you're flying, then you bought a drone.

You need to remember to add $50 to any drone you buy new. They don't come with a power supply.

As for the "why a mini 4 pro?". It's a least expensive option with all the reliability a beginner needs. The 360° obstacle avoidance is pretty good built-in insurance. It's not perfect but it's great for the price point.

CamRise has plenty and they are DJI Authorized reseller with full warranty benefits! Fast shipper too!

WOW. THE tip that you have the seller fly it to avoid a faulty drone crashing if YOU test it is an excellent point. Especially for me, who has no drone experience. Even for someone who does have experience, I could see a damaged drone being sold where the buyer flys it, crashes due to defects, and the argument starts on the cause/error, etc. THANKS !

I might take some incoming flack for this but I would never buy something like a drone from a private sale. That is, unless I can physically see it fly or I am buying from a known and good friend. The problems with scams, mailing, E Bay and Pay Pal fees, lack of the seller un-binding, all make me fearsome. I would rather pay the full retail price, get a warranty and ability to return, to have a brand new drone. My exceptions are known sellers on this forum.

However, I have sold both an Air 1, Mini 2, through this forum successfully. If I cannot afford the new price, I will not buy it used.
