Newbie: Remote won't connect to phone?

Hello all.

Just got the Mavic Pro delivered. I plugged the USB standard plug into the remote controller in the middle between the holders, and I plugged the microUSB end into my Nexus 6 Android phone.

I started installed the DJI Go 4 app. I started it, and pressed the ON button on the remote controller.
It says "Batt Charge 51%" and then goes black.

The DJI GO app says "Disconnected".

What could be wrong?

Did you unplug the cable on the left side of the remote controller? Both cannot be plugged in at the same time.

Yes I did. I also tried the app on my wife's Samsung Galaxy 4. It won't connect either. I tried three different USB-microUSB cables.

Since I am new, can you tell me what is SUPPOSED to happen, and when?

I turned on the drone. It flashes yellow on the rear and red light on the front.
I plug in the USB and go to DJI Go 4. I set it to Mavic Pro.

Is it supposed to automatically connect?

What "talks" to the drone? The remote? Should the remote automatically find the drone?

It doesn't sound like you ever turned on the remote control. Just like the Mavic, short-tap followed by a long-hold.

Thanks! That was the problem. It works now. This thing is all new to me.

I am surprised that was not explained in the Quick Start manual. Something so basic.
