Nighttime precision landing

This is interesting and I’m wondering if any of you had the landing lights on for takeoff? If so did you climb up to the correct attitude for the visual positioning system to get a good photo and, did the aircraft tell you that the home point had been recorded?

I tested it both ways -- with the lights set to auto on and on.

Yes.

did the aircraft tell you that the home point had been recorded?
Yes.

The Mavic manual states that Precision Landing cannot be used in the dark. It looks like we're trying to do something that's not possible.

Ditto...

Thanks, you two and I suspected as much but wanted to make sure. So, as the manual says, darkness is not the time for PL's.

I tried it with a 3x3 inch fluorescent orange piece of plexiglass in the middle of my driveway. It didn't improve the accuracy.

The conclusion is, it doesn’t work for night time flying but I bet it was fun trying it out.

Like I said in one of my previous posts, I don’t think I’ll use it but because it’s a new feature for the M2 I wanted to try it out, human instinct I suppose.;)

Thanks for the clarification @msinger Thumbswayup

Try pointing a handheld laser at the point you want it to land on........
DJI........ are y’all listening ?

However it would make more sense to perfect a PL for the night rather than for the day when we have a good view! I wonder why the headlights below, to improve the view only to us I believe, not the drone!

So what's the point of the landing lights if they're not going to help with landing?

They certainly help with manual landing when you are flying from a dark site and are really useful when mapped to one of the custom buttons so you can turn them on whenever - they are nice a bright.

They certainly helped me land when I was out testing this feature last night. It was pitch dark and I would not have been able to see the ground without those lights.

They certainly are bright. When I first got my M2 in September, it was already dark once I finished work, unpacked everything and set out to fly in a park that was open until 11pm.
