Lost gimbal lock, does anyone use a different method to secure while waiting for a replacement?

You could fill the plastic dome with some type of foam material (notched out to fit the camera/gimbal) to prevent the camera/gimbal from moving around when the plastic dome is attached.

How much will it matter if I don't lock the camera down just right, than for the help

It's very fragile. You might damage it if you let it bounce around while transporting it. If you're not going to transport it until you get the replacement lock, then it'll be just fine as-is now sitting in your home on a table somewhere.

I find using tissue paper which one often has in a pocket the most universally reliable. This combined with a zip case from ebay.
