I have been playing around with the flight modes in an open environment so that I can get familiar with things. While I was playing around trying to circle an object using poi mode I figured I would try it in active track mode. Unless I am missing something active track seems much easier. It actually keeps the subject centered with no yaw input. I get that active track is to be used for moving objects but seems to work fine on stationary ones.
I am sure I am missing something here so feedback is much appreciated.

I also didn't knew that! But, yeah it's possible to use AT to do POI.

Active track uses visual tracking which is not always dependable. The software has a tough job keeping an eye on things when contrast is low etc. Whereas POI uses GPS to keep the Mavic pointing in the correct position, this will yield more stable and reliable performance given the vastly different scenarios people fly in.

Correct as GlenT says. POI uses a coordinate and geometry whereas active track is optical. Using AT at a distance and with some subjects, the lock is hard to maintain. But for some things AT works perfectly well

Sorry if I just repeated GlenTs words with different one's. He actually did a better job of explaining it.
