This morning they imploded the old South Shore Hospital in South Beach. Checked restrictions and even spoke with a police officer who said I could take off from where he was as he advised not to try and get any closer. We were 2-3 blocks away. It was suppose to go boom at 10am so I did a pre flight -flight to make sure everything was set right and I knew where I wanted to be. At 9:55 I launch and quickly fly over and into my spot, which was 225’ and still about 2 blocks away. I made sure I stayed out of zone which was about 2 blocks in all directions around building. All is well and 10am comes and then goes. Then so does 10:05 and then 10:10. I’m watching the time go up and my battery go down. I noticed a few other drones there but bailed, on what I figured were battery limitations. I was at 30% and just about to turn around, fly back for a hopefully very quick battery swap. Just as my thumb was twitching I heard a boom and then a bunch of them. That thing dropped perfectly in one spot. As I clicked a final picture (blury) now of rubble, my low battery warning was beeping. I was so glad I waited as I would have missed it if I even yawed one bit.
