PHONE ON A DRONE LEADS RESCUERS TO TRAPPED MOTORIST:

Great...!
But now imagine that same thing happened within a National Park instead of this forest... Most probably the motorist/hiker would not have had the drone with him due to the actual restrictions... so in this case, he would have DIED as a result of restrictions that do more harm than good, and this case CLEARLY shows that over reaching drone restrictions can actually contribute to a human life being LOST as a result, instead of having the possibility of using the drone to save the life of a stranded person!!
I hope the respective authorities –state, national or whatever– do take note of this case and open their eyes to the reality that excessive and unreasonable restrictions on areas that drones can be used, will actually hamper the possibility of saving a life by using a drone the way this person did, which SAVED his life!!
Now suppose this person was indeed within the boundaries of a National Park and had the drone with him, and indeed used it to save his life, no matter the rules.... Would the NPS have the courage to fine him for flying the drone in a "restricted area" in order to SAVE HIS LIFE?????
This case clearly shows that unreasonable restrictions DO lead to much worse damage than doing any good at the end of the day! Come on, where's the common sense in this world??...

Agreed! On every point.
And an additional point to mention....due to geofencing, even if the stranded motorist had his drone with him in the National Park, he would not have been able to launch it! He would have gotten the message he was in a restricted area and the drone would not be able to even take off.

This is a great story.
It may be helpful to point out that when traveling to remote areas, it's good to always have a personal locator beacon or satellite messenger or satellite phone, so that if something happens to you and you are injured or stuck, you can call for help. I have the Garmin InReach Garmin inReach Explorer+ Satellite Communicator with Maps and Sensors which is rechargeable via USB. You can either press an "SOS" button on the device to call for help, and/or you can send a text message, or messages, via satellite, so this will work even if the area has no cell signal.

This has been said a million times ... 'Better to be judged by 12, than be carried by 6'.
