Maybe. We'll see but apparently they've had enough of drones except maybe their own or the ones doing "important work" such as power pole inspections.
Perhaps none of us live there or won't ever visit but these rules and regulations become blueprints and spread like wildfires if they go unchecked. It's crazy to hear about some of the ideas they are proposing:
Here's their playbook: 1) Acknowledge the FAA owns everything in the air; this will throw off anyone who thinks this important concept is being overlooked and not considered when the city starts to infringe on the airspace; 2) Include distance parameters to make it seem like you are not prohibiting but only safely limiting so call it 1,000 feet or 500 feet or even 250 feet so it doesn't seem unreasonable; 3) Always add in the schools because public school property and kids in school have extra rights and special protections and basically we don't want any of the numerous pedos who frequently operate these drones to come anywhere near the schools; 4) Always bring up prohibiting arming drones because that's what everyone is trying to do these days so we need to stop it now before it gets out of hand; this alone makes the bill palpable; 5) People have a right to privacy so abuse that legal concept claiming there is an expectation of privacy outside of the bathroom/changing room or your bedroom at night and extend it to basically everywhere....this will take care of the no video or photos of anyone without their written consent (which is impossible) and finally 6) Push to make it a misdemeanor so depending on the flyer's appearance and attitude and the equipment and whatever else you are doing among other things, jail time is an option (which serves as a massive deterrent to the hobby) which means a violent arrest and drone confiscation is the likely outcome should you fail to cooperate with investigators; leading to a plea bargain so we don't ever have to fight this in court.

Perhaps none of us live there or won't ever visit but these rules and regulations become blueprints and spread like wildfires if they go unchecked. It's crazy to hear about some of the ideas they are proposing:
- Commercial drone flights would require a business license, along with a city film permit or special event permit. Basically means the city will decide who gets to fly commercial and when.
- Drones cannot take off or land from city property or within 250 feet of city property. This is an attempt to prevent someone from standing outside the boundaries and overfly.
- Can’t take off or land within 1,000 feet of emergency response incidents. Unless there are exemptions, this is a 1st amendment violation if drones are not allowed to fly BVLOS.
Where can they still fly?
Pismo Beach is cracking down on drone flights. Where can they still fly?
One councilmember said he was concerned about people accidentally breaking the new restrictions on drone flight — and then having steep penalties.
