I understood recreational drone flying was banned in Canada. Unless that changed very recently

You need to get either a basic or advanced license in order to fly legally. I got the basic licence and basically I'm not allowed to fly with 30m of people as long as the regular rules regarding NFZ. You can still fly recreational in Canada.
