I have now have a set of ND4 8 16 Polarised Filters for my Mavic Air. Is there a golden rule to follow for adjusting them before one starts filming.
Any advice greatly received ...

I test before I fly... check what exposure setting you are getting with each, find the one that gives you a shutter around 1/60th

I film in 4K 30f and always set my shutter speed to 1/60th. I do what you say with my ordinary ND filters. Its the fine adjustment ring on the polarised ones I am not sure of.

With a polarizing type filter It depends on the position of the sun, the filter and position of the camera. If you look through a polarized filter at water and turn it you'll see what they can do. I put a dot on the filter that points as closely as possible to the angle of the sun if that's the effect I want. As for the ND value, I agree with what others have said.

If I understand your question... so if i am using a polarizing filter, I install it on drone. Turn drone on and connect (at my intended flight location). Using the video image from Go app I will hold drone and rotate filter to find the best image in the App. You will notice sky turning darker/lighter or if facing water/glass you can see the reflection reduce. Find the best image and then start your flight. The lens will not rotate as you are flying, or shouldn't.

Of u want a general rule that works most of the time is just leave the dot at the top. Most of the issues are the sun reflecting off the water. It will also darken the sky in front of the drone. The polarizing takes between 1 & 2 stops so that needs to be taken into account along with the nd value

Along with what ND value? Just treat it as a ND 4 for exposure compensation purposes.

Without quizzing polarpro on this, the info on their website is odd. They say ND4 (2 stops) & ND4/PL(2 stops) im guessing this is an error, I’d treat ND4/PL like an ND8 and correct 3 to 4 stops. Of course they could have compensated. I need to do a test

Well the you would be 2 & 1/2 stops overexposed. You don't need to guess about if its an error or assume too much into it- the the polariser is equivalent to ND4 (roughly). They have described it correctly.

You can adjust on the fly in camera settings while viewing the feed in the go4 app. Then you can see iif its too dark/light....
