Range Question

This may be a dumb question but I flew to a buddy's house the other day a little over half a mile and I lost signal before I got there(about 3500ft). There are trees between here and there but is that a normal range to start losing signal in that scenario?

Rob is right...altitude affects range. Generally, the longer the distance, the higher the drone needs to be.

At 400 feet of altitude, I could barely see mine at 1,300 feet distance.

That said, the bigger question is, could you see it at that range of 3,500 ft.? If not, you were flying an illegal flight, even for hobby rules.

It was at 200 feet. If I went lower I would lose signal completely
