Hello,

I'm a recreational flyer in Chicago area, and also hold Part 107 License. Ocassionally, I may use one of my drones to check out a building facade or roof as part of my real estate co job.

Must ( can ) I keep my two drones registered only as recreational ? or must I register as part 107 account ? OR can they both be " dual registered ?

thank you for your input

bruce

I don't know the exact details for your requirements but I would guess you should register your two drones as part 107 (meaning $5 each and different registration numbers) and then take the TRUST and you are free to check out roofs and other jobs whenever you wish with either drone. In the meantime, you are able to fly under recreation rules as often as you wish since a part 107 flyer can fly for fun as well (but not the other way around).

YEP I would register them all under part 107. you never know when you need to use one.

Definitely register them as part 107. I always have to chuckle at the suggestion that you fly "recreational rules" when you have Pt. 107. All of the underlying rules of UAS flight are defined in Pt. 107 and 44809 is simply a set of restrictions that let you fly without the certification. If you have a Pt. 107 why would you want to be restricted to the terms of 44809?

Thanks for the input & advice, I left one of them as recreational and registered the other as 107.

Best,

bruce

For personal reasons, some folks prefer to fly their sub-250g drone without registration and without RID and you cannot do that under part 107.

The rest of the reasons are "debatable."

If a drone is used for commercial work, it must be registered individually under Part 107.
