Regulations for a UK national to fly in Spain

I've checked the maps and Salou looks pretty tight, but there's are a few spots around where it seems flying is allowed.

My concerns are that after 2015 the Spanish government lost it with registration and started hitting people with £220k fines.

So my question is, in 2018, what do I need to fly my mavic in and around Salou, I'm talking early morning sunrises of the beach etc

Is there a license needed?

As far as I'm aware there is no license needed if flying recreationaly.

Drones are not well tolerated in Spain, I'd be wary about flying in salou and maybe try find somewhere more remote.

salou is prety well populated and you would need to go a fare way out early morning to get some beach flying. keep away from hotels the are lots.
with valecia in one direction and barcelona in the other you may need to travel some way.
inland 25-40 Km is some amazing senery.
flying rules are the same as UK
keep your batteries in hand luggage. in lipo safe bags

Has anyone ever had issues on a plane with discharged batteries in hand luggage in an appropriate bag (i.e. DJI case, etc). It strikes me that lipo safe bags are overkill but, equally, I don't want my batteries taken off me if they are simply required.

iv used what is recommended and never had any problems.
overkill or not, you will be dealing with security at the airport. they dont know if its overkill or not.
print a copy of the airline regs and lipo recommendations to show them if they are uninformed or overzealous.
