Reminder, even if you have 1000's of hours flying.... it just takes one missed check....

I got lucky, parked my truck under power lines and mis judged my vertical safe zone to take off by a little bit. Slammed my air3 into them but it kept going.... Had a spare pair but im backlogged until October to get OEM replacement props from androma.

Being in the USA flying dji is hard these days.

Glad you only had prop damage and had backups.

Not to hijack your thread, but...I've been meaning to change my props for ages. I have 3 sets of MAS props plus one OEM set for my Mini 3 Pro on hand. I've also got a good screwdriver (the one that everyone here recommends) for changing the props. But...if things get stripped, I'll be grounded until some sanity returns to the US federal government - and I don't think that's likely for the next few years at best.

So...what to do? Do I take the chance and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y try to unscrew the existing props, even more carefully try and keep those soft threads in good shape, swap in the new MAS props and even more carefully screw them in? Or do I leave things as they are, given the current state of things.

My original props work OK, but have some minor scuffing (so they'll work better, and maybe fly a little quieter, if replaced). I have a trip coming up in a few weeks where I really want to fly, the scenery should be magnificent. But if my drone is disabled and stuck in customs limbo with no quick delivery on the horizon...I might wish I let sleeping dogs lie.

I am torn. 🤔

I may be wrong, but I believe in past posts here and in other groups it was mentioned that the MAS props although providing better and quieter performance, are more brittle and will shatter if encountering a situation like above. Where the OEM are more durable and will keep you flying. It was for this reason I have not used the MAS props even with all their benefits. Do not know how accurate those reports are, but I will not take the chance my drone(s) will drop from the sky if there is an accidental scrape/nick from hitting a line or other obstacle. FWIW, I purchased some MAS props prior to hearing these stories, so I have kept them only as an emergency backup to keep flying should my OEM props get damaged.

If you need a set of DJI props, I probably have some I can part with. Won’t be back to home base for about a week.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE!!! Back in the Phantom days I hit some overhead wires that put me out of business for a couple of weeks. My checklist now has an item "Look up dummy."

I'm a relentless prop inspector, replace after one year kind of guy. So I tend to stock up on OEM props as soon as I get a new bird. I do put the decommissioned props in a ziploc with a date on them, if in good shape they can still be a backup if things get weird in prop land.

As far as having a collision, I think if you fly long enough and tend to be highly content motivated, it's not a matter of if but when you have a mishap.

A few years back while on a job with an MP2, I turned obstacle avoidance off to get into an intricate shot and did not turn it back on. I then hit the gas in reverse and got tangled up in a treetop. The shot was only 200' feet away so I quickly found the bird which had tumbled through branches some 30' feet down (that was fun to see on the screen) and found the only damage to be a stop on the rear prop arm had been broken, a $150 repair for the new arm.
