Resolution Confusion…Help!

I currently fly a Mini 3 Pro with the ‘standard’ controller and an iPad

Mini 4 for a better view. I’ll be 83 on the 6th of this month and still love flying.

My issue is that I can’t seem to follow what happens when I take a video

and then transfer it from my M3P to my mini. Am I correct to assume that if I choose to send someone the video directly from my mini 4 after wireless transfer, by way of Message, that the recipient will receive a low res. video? And, If I choose to send the same video directly from the memory card after loading it in my computer, that version will be high res?

Where do I look to read more info on this dilemma?

Hope this is clear and I would appreciate any suggestions.

Yes you are not confused the video stored on the Drones SD card is the high resolution video. It would become much to "laggy" to try to transmit at a high resolution hence lower resolutions on your goggles or controller.

Quick Transfer copies the full-resolution video to your iPad. However, there is a lower resolution copy hanging around, so before you do anything with the video check the size of the file you're viewing.

As implied, the best way to do it is to open DJI Fly on your Mini iPad if it's not already opened and click on the Quick Transfer link on the screen that is there before you actually connect to fly. You will then be prompted to connect to the drone (which must be on) and it will transfer directly from your drone to your Mini 4. It is quite a fast transfer although if you have been shooting all day and have 240GB of files you probably want to remove the micro SD card and do it manually on your computer.

so sorry, but Im still confused.....is there or is there not a low res on the controller after the transfer, and if so, where is it?

yes the low resolution video will be on the on board drive or the SD card on the controller.

I am afraid I'm becoming a pest, but a previous response said the full rez only is sent to the sd card which I think is true, but I cant find where the low rez goes in order to send someone a file that if in hi rez is too large to send.

My silence is only because I don't know the answer. I always work with the downloaded full resolution copy, so I've never had to find the low res.

There's lots of info related to this question in this DJI post: Drone Photo or Video Files Export Guide

But you may be overthinking this, and I say that as a retired computer scientist with a specialty in image processing and thorough understanding of video encoding, down to the bits, so I am no stranger to overthinking these kinds of things. But I have never had a need to locate the lower-res copies in the DJI Fly app's cache. Those files are much lower quality than the originals, and the only reason I know of to access them is for data recovery, in the case of losing access to the original, full quality files.

I recommend that you work with the video files you shoot on your drone as follows: copy the video files from the microSD card to a desktop or laptop computer's hard drive. You now have the original, highest quality version of the video on the computer, both in terms of the video's resolution and the amount of compression. Those are the files you should be viewing and editing. If you just want to send one of those videos to someone via a text messaging app, you don't need to find the smaller low quality version in the DJI Fly App's cache. Just drag the original, full size video file into the messaging app, and that app will automatically downsample the video file in order to send it efficiently.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your kind words. I've received a great deal of help from the participants on this forum (and the related Inspirepilots, where I've spent more time). I try to pay it back whenever I can.
