I just saw the DJI app and my entire area is in orange or has helicopter symbols scattered where no airports exist. Just what is the procedure for clearing the Mavic Pro once permission is granted by an airport? And what do I do about the areas near those chopper logos? With all the areas covered here, I don't want a hobby that I spend more time getting permission to do than actually doing it.

It sounds like you're in a tough spot. The orange areas are 'enhanced warning zones'. Airports will not/cannot give permission to fly in controlled airspace, but the FAA does have the ability to issue an airspace or operational waiver. You are supposed to notify every airport/heliport within 5 miles for a hobby flight, unless you have another arrangement or agreement with them. They may say no, however, so if you still choose to fly it might legally be considered a knowingly 'unsafe' flight.
