President Trump is visiting San Diego today (fundraiser). The FAA has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction that affects pretty much the whole of San Diego County (except for the extreme northern and eastern areas of the County). Click image for larger version.

The Area A TFR (the largest circle) is in effect from 10:00am to 6:30pm (Pacific).

I wonder how many people will violate the TFR simply because they are not aware of it. Or, will DJI's no-fly database accurately prevent flight during the TFR?

Thanks for posting. I brought my drone in to fly at lunch today. I knew he was going to be in town today so I was going to check. I didn't think the TFR would be large. I am just inside the northern edge. Dratz!

Common sense dictates no one will care if you fly your UAS miles from the POTUS and at low altitudes.
Likely the drone won’t entire the NFZ or won’t take off inside it, plus if it goes into effect when flying the drone will usually land where it is.

Only if you update your database; many of us have also patched our Mavics to circumvent the nanny

This TFR = NO COMMON SENSE.

If I wanted to fly with the kids under 100’ in the backyard, I should be able to.
Common sense 101.

Up Next, you’ll not be able to drive on the highway because the President is being escorted 25 miles away. Nope, can’t do that, stay at home or use a bike!

I haven't updated the DJI Go app database for my Mavic in weeks. So, I decided to fire up my Mavic Pro Platinum in the backyard to see what would happen. The DJI Go app immediately notified me there was a database update available but I declined to update it. The database update notification occurred BEFORE I even turned on the drone. Again, I did NOT install it.

As soon as the Mavic booted and connected to the controller I got "NFZ" on the screen of the controller. This is what I got on my iPad mini display (I've blanked out the map in the lower right corner).

I tried to start the props on my Mavic and it did absolutely nothing.

I live approximately 16 miles from the center of the main TFR.

Great info, thanks for that! Wonder if it does that with Litchi

I checked mine yesterday with GO 4. It locked me out of flying. The database hasn't been updated for quite a while. My smart controller must have briefly linked to WiFi before I made it out the door otherwise I don't think it would have known about the TFR. I expected to get the Flight Restriction pop up Photo Booth got above. All the controller gave me was the "Cannot take off" warning.

Good question! Since the craft can only get tfr updates through the Go4 app, and the app must be connected to the internet, a different app like Litchi may not support tfr updates. If you know there's a tfr coming to your area, I would assume you can still fly if you simply stop connecting to the internet, BEFORE DJI pushes out the tfr data, which could be days before the actual tfr date.
