Save to SD card

I want to save my footage to the SD in the drone and not on my phone.

Yes that can be done, Go into general setting and turn off auto sync HD photos, see photo below if you can’t find it you will have to connect the Go4 app to your drone as if you were flying.

It's not just possible, it's what happens every time you record video or stills.
They are saved to the SD card in the drone.
What you are seeing on your phone are low-res cached images/video.
You can turn off the image to save cached video.

Actually it will always record to the SD card on the AC, or the AC's internal storage available on an MA/M2 if you set it that way.

Amazing response guys much appreciated.
I've only put the drone in the air a handful of tines so I'm learning each time.

Flew it today on active track and whence recording a message would appear stating no space on card... Or something on them lines....Obviously it was saving to my phones card.

Pulling my hair out as to how i resolve the situation.

My phone does appear with a message when I plug in the controller.... Again another confusing message...I just tap ok.

I'll take to the skies later today hopefully with a clear head and follow your advice lads.

In Go 4 you can set how much space to allocate on your device (phone, tablet, whatever) for cache so you don't eat up all your storage with video and photos from your drone.

You can either set the amount of cache to a larger amount, or clear what's there.

I've mastered the art of saving my footage to the SD in the drone with the help of Porky.
It's a 32gb card so I have enough space for the footage I take...upload to my laptop then wipe the card for further videos.

You still might want to tweak the settings for the cache, because video and photos will be going there, too, in addition to the SD card. It's a nice backup if the SD card fails, or the drone crashes and is unrecoverable.

You will also have to remove/or move the cached files off of your device as that can get full quickly.
I am not sure if you can select the path for the cached video/stills download. I think it only goes into the dji folder in the root directory. You will have to either delete them, or move them to the sd card on your device if it is filing up your device memory.

Is there any harm in clearing the cache and loosing all of that information?
Is there any value or need in saving it to my computer after flying for the day is completed?

The cache video is lower res, 720p/1080p depending on model and transmission mode, and probably higher compression. That can be useful for situations where you want a smaller file and not much concern for quality. It also allows for quickly showing someone your recordings before you've had a chance to transfer the high quality one on the AC.

Go 4 can be set to place the cache video on an SD card installed on your phone instead of main storage. It will ask for the path. I recommend selecting root as I have not gotten it to work selecting a folder. It will create a folder structure similar to what it has in main storage so don't worry about cluttering root of SD card.

when you fly your drone it is up to you whether or not you take pics or video ,if you are not interested in looking at what you have filmed ,or saving the same then just delete it from your device and format your SD card in the drone to clear it

I had playback stutters on PC even with videos from P3A in 1080p. Cleared up when I upgraded my graphics card.
