Which mode are sensors front back and side active? From the manual it's hard to tell but I'm sure I saw a video saying sensors are only not active during sport mode.Screenshot_20180913-170527.jpeg20180913_193134.jpeg

I have read the manual and in very small print it states read the manual which there is no mention only watch DJI videos on the website. Sport mode there are no sensors active. P mode only front and back at certain angles and T mode and active track, all sensors. My drone crashed due to altitude loss and a reported IMU calibration issue not responded to by DJI. This drone is being advertised as being an obstacle avoidance drone, yet that is not entirely true unless you read the document and watch videos. I'd say DJI are giving users a false sense of protection by not stating clearly when full sensored protection is active.

Agreed. I think the M2 was rushed into production because all the features brought over from the MP are not working and some of the new ones are not complete. They will probably be addressing these with firmware updates but that does not help those already out now. It is bordering on dishonesty to advertise all the sensors on the unit but bury in fine print (if at all) the details of when they actually work. From the Footnote section of the M2 spec sheet: Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing includes left/right, up/down, and forward/backward obstacle sensing. Sensing for left/right directions is only available in ActiveTrack or Tripod Mode. Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing does not fully cover the circumference of a 360-degree arc. And left and right obstacle sensing system only works in specific modes and environments. DJI warranty does not cover any loss caused by crashing when flying left or right, even when ActiveTrack or Tripod mode is activated. Please be aware of your surroundings and App notifications when operating the Mavic 2 to ensure safety.

The part about this that irks me is that "DJI warranty does not cover any loss caused by crashing when flying left or right, even when ActiveTrack or Tripod mode is activated." WTF? I understand that it may not detect fine branches or wires but what about a wall? Either DJI didn't want to get into a shouting match about what caused the crash or they just do not have confidence that the sensors work as advertised.

Surely having bought it then it should be mandatory to read the documentation to actually understand it.

No its not. Anyone with the ability to read can clearly see in the documentation what sensors are and aren't active. The advertising is 100% accurate unless you're a complete moron.

"Lateral sensors are only available in Active Track 2.0 and tripod mode"

Seems remarkably simple and clear to me.

Mossiback made a very good case to the argument without being disrespectful, shows he as a little class, maybe you could learn something from him.

I read the manual before buying; the behavior was not a surprise to me. In my opinion the limitations are small compared to utility of the ability that is present.

My Subaru has the Eyesight vision crash avoidance system that is heavily advertised. I do not hold it against Subaru that it doesn't work in heavy rain, snow or fog; or that it won't save me if I am going 75mph.

It seems unusual that DJI does not emphasize clearly that lateral sensors only work in limited modes. When flying I get so many warnings on screen about wind,attitude/obstacle avoidance etc that I'm surprised DJI doesn't take billboards announcing this.
