Should Drones Spy on American Citizens?

I once used a satellite phone in Korea at one of those public roadstops so I was standing outdoors in the parking lot. I was told to stop using it because it bypasses the "government" network and it's looks suspicious and draw unwanted attention. This is when they had signs and billboards telling citizens to call in anything that looks suspicious.

Could HAM radio operators fall under suspicion in event of civil war?

AI Overview

Ham radio operators can find themselves in precarious situations during civil wars, potentially facing targeting for various reasons, although targeting of civilian infrastructure and personnel is governed by international law
.
Here's a breakdown of the complexities:
  • Communication as a strategic asset: In armed conflicts, communication is crucial for coordinating military operations, spreading propaganda, and maintaining control over populations.
  • Vulnerability of civilian communications: Civilian communication systems, including those used by ham radio operators, can be vulnerable to disruption or destruction, either intentionally or as collateral damage during attacks on military targets.
  • Targeting of dual-use infrastructure: If civilian communication infrastructure (including that potentially used by ham operators) is also used by the military, it might be considered a military objective and potentially subject to attack.
  • Potential for use by warring factions: Individuals with radio skills might be pressured or forced to assist one side or another in the conflict, blurring the lines between civilian and combatant roles.
  • Spying and propaganda: Historical examples show individuals with radio knowledge involved in espionage activities during wartime, raising concerns about the potential for ham radio use for such purposes.
  • Disruption and control: Disabling communication infrastructure can help control information flow and hinder the ability of opposing forces or civilian populations to organize, communicate, and react.

Why does anyone need a HAM radio? Who are you talking to and why? You are saying you also launch drones and discharge firearms from your property?
WOW! You must cringe under your front porch.

Ham radio is a hobby enjoyed by over 700,000 American citizens
Discharging firearms in SC in an unincorporated area is perfectly legal. It is called target practice. Along with fireworks and burning vegetation. Amongst other vile activities LOL

In 2014, when I was an exchange student at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro the satellite imagery that the Uni was getting from the State Police was good enough to tell that someone was hanging the washing on the line. Move forward 11 years and I betcha the satellite imagery available now will tell who that person is that is hanging the washing on the line. So forget privacy.
