Preprogrammed was not the right word. But you will only get so many cycles from the battery. You will never make it to 3000 cycles no matter how you treat the battery. Although you can kill batteries prematurely.

One of these days I am going to have to delve into the so called intelligence in the battery. Cell balancing is the most important factor for long life in a battery not subjected to dumb stuff. In a silver oxide battery powering a special underwater vehicle, one country paid no attention to the charging recommendations and would never get even 100 charging cycles. Another country built a special charger to individually charge each of the 18 cells every time and had over 1000 cycles the last I knew. Batteries were still perfect. I charge my other LiPo batteries for my RC Truggy and Boat always using balance charging. Not quite as good as individual charging but a whole lot better than bulk charging in series.
