My drone is completely stock, but I've made some upgrades to my controller because I have some issues with wifi interference. I didn't have have much luck with the parabolic or yagi antennas.

So I 3D printed a new bottom for my controller with two holes for SMA connectors. The left connector goes to the transmitter and the right goes to the stock right antenna. Left antenna is untouched.

This gives me the option of switching between the stock antennas or hooking up my Wifi booster and helix antenna. The controller keeps its small profile and still fits in the fly more case.

I'm very happy with it! When I need some extra power it only takes a couple minutes to assemble. I never have range issues now.

Here's how it looks when I've got it all kitted up.

And when I'm done it disassembles into pieces that fit in a little case.

And of course if I want to get up quickly I just bridge the two connectors which uses the stock antennas like normal.

Getting a few more accessories for my drone soon like the led light sign and the wireless speaker.

Dam! That's some nice work! How is the equality of signal strength out going vs incoming? How sensitive is the directional signal, do you have to be spot on for effective control?

M2z with FCC patch
M Mini with FCC gps mod
2 x sun hoods
White and RE DJI goggles ...SC Hdmi out for 2nd set option
5.8 silicon brass yagi’s parabolic combo
2.4 aluminium yagi...waiting for 2.4 brass parabolic custom combo
M2z leg extensions ...MM twin front/rear legs
decals..new ones for both currently ordered
1 meter data cable extension for iPad Pro 12.9” with sunhood +folding table
(too uncomfortably heavy to mount on remote even with Thor)
Smart controller ....plus secondary standard remote for giving flying lessons...and connecting to iPad Pro for 2nd larger screen if I am flying from the car (stationary)
2 x camera mounts for insta 360
chromecast dongle and mini power bank, for MM with DJI goggles (just for fun)

Receiving seems to be a little weaker vs transmitting but it's difficult to tell because I rarely get signal drops when using it. But this is expected because I haven't made any changes to the drone so its going to have a weaker outgoing signal than the controller.

The antenna is a (very cheap) 7 turn helix antenna which has a high gain. I think the beam is around 50 degrees. Of course the further I go out, the less accurate I need to be because the beam widens with distance. And when the drone is close, the stock left antenna is still always on which provides some antenna diversity. So that left antenna can pick up the slack if I'm not bang on.

That is very slick! I may give your setup a try.

Was the S6 meant to be new or second hand?
Refurbished. And they sent a S7. I convinced att to unlock the carrier sim lock even though the thing had a bill on it from it's old owner. Idk how I talk them into it oh wait yes I do they turn me down three times in a row and after the third time I told the guy in the phone that I owned a business with 600 employees and we were all on AT&T and I was going to cancel everybody service in my company and they called me back 30 minutes later with an unlock code.. true story happened yesterday
