Simple waypoint test

Hi,
I'm trying to learn how waypoints work and how accurate they are, so I did a simple test.

I sat in the middle of a wide closed down road, and launched the Pro4 mini, to fly at 2 mtr height, and follow the line for 20Mtrs, then reverse back along the line and land. This was 4 waypoints.
When I played it, the drone followed the line accurately then reversed back in a big loop, and went to the side of the road and back to the launch spot. I repeated the flight and it did the same, quite accurately.

So it seems accurate, but why the looped return?

I'd have to look at your actual waypoint route to answer definitively, but a reasonable guess us you're simply seeing the fact that the WP algorithm creates a path between waypoints using a bspline curve, so you can't have a 180deg turn in place from one waypoint to another (at the end of your run, coming back).

Instead you have to have two separate waypoint missions, one out, and one back, with the drone stopping and hovering at the far end. When it gets all the way out and ends the first WP mission and hovers in place, you start the reverse mission to return.

If I want to come back one the same route, what's the shortest distance to return via the return route?
