Smart Capture without a controller

This seems to be a problem for me. I must be doing something wrong. 1) I power on 2) wait til a flashing function button is yellow 3)I press the button twice, I don't get a confirming tone. What is wrong?

Im having the same problem, ive only been able to do it without connecting my phone like 2 times. not sure why its such a PITA
