Am I the only one who thinks the screen is too small?

It's a beautiful display with great resolution but I was used to flying my P3P with my iPad and now I just dont see all of the details that I did with a bigger display.

Everything I read about it is everyone loves it but I would have loved a screen that was 8, 9 or 10 inches instead.

I guess my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Tis what I use and quite a few others, can you imagine how big the controller would be if it had a much larger screen.

Yes.

I thought about that as I was making the thread.

I likened it to the size of those old Etch-A-Sketch toys I used to have way back when lol!

It would be huge but I'd be OK with it.

Its small yes, especially if coming from a bigger device like an 8" tablet and so on.
That said i can see the SC screen outdoors in sunlight whereas a cant with a mobile device so its an improvement in that its smaller but at least i can see it.
Not sure what the solution would be, a bigger screen would make it less portable. I guess there's Crystal Sky otherwise.

To me the whole point of a mavic vs a P4 is portability. If you keep adding so much bulk like monitors, external screens or huge controllers to the mavic you've pretty much eliminated its reason for existing.

Exactly. While I have no doubt that there are folks who would really like a 10inch or larger SC controller screen, it would start getting heavier also. I think it would be a very expensive niche product. So unless DJI or others think that they can sell enough to make a fair profit, it is probably a long way off. And for those looking for the less portable solution - it was posted above - couple it with a monitor.

Now that would be a perfect size screen for me. Wish DJI offered that, at an affordable price.

The SC does have a clean HDMI out so to that extent you are now free to put whatever brand and size screen you want on it. This is a big improvement from the standard controllers.

For some people portability isnt an issue, they drive a short distance, fly and no problem. In which case they'd be happier with a bulkier, larger potentially more cumbersome solution.
At the other end of the scale there are people like myself who need the full setup to fit around other gear in an already full and heavy pack where its thrown about on public transport, planes, walked up mountains and so on. So different priorities.

Although i miss my 8" screen i dont miss the extra things i need to carry, the assembly time pre-flight, the fact i cant see it in the sun and so on. If i wasnt walking around and could leave the gear assembled chances are i wouldnt need the smart controller - Crystal Sky would be a better choice.

I DO wish the SC screen was brighter. 2000nits would be awesome. 1000 is "ok" but still lacks some visibility. Its also really reflective.

I understand the need for compactness when on climb etc. and the whole system is small in that respect. I have been contemplating the purchase of a SC but the fact that it is only at 1000 makes me hold off, in the hopes that a new version at 2000 will be announced. Even better a 2000 nits with a 7 inch screen would be perfect.

One of the reasons I bought the Mavic 2 was portability, I am used to flying Yuneec and their ST16 controller is larger with a much larger display and I was disappointed at the idea of the size of the Smartcontroller screen. However on using it I find it much better because of the brightness and clarity and don't miss the size at all, it fits snugly in my bag and makes taking the Mavic out for the day along with other cameras a breeze.

Yes, no matter what size the screen is, if it is not bright in sunlight it is useless, regardless of the price. I feel the SC is a good compromise between function and size and cost of course with brightness also being thrown in there. I have not been able to try one out so see just how much brighter it may be compared to my Wunderphone, but that phone is better than my iPhone 6 I used to fly with, in brightness. Maybe I would settle for a 2000nits SC, or better yet, one that was an inch bigger as well as brighter. Of course it all boils down to what each of us can afford, so we will all be different.

As I often tell my wife, it's not the size that's important, it's how it's used...

I have always used my big iPad pros for monitors so was rally used to the large screen, then moved to the 7.85 CS which I fell in love with. Now with the smart controller, it is smaller, and I miss the big screen, but it’s just so convenient that I’m happy with it. I did think of adding the FeelWorld monitor to it (which looks great), but I just think that this is just taking away the advantage of the SC. Plus I have a great case that the extra monitor wouldn’t fit it.
For times when I really need the bigger monitor, I just use the system I built and carry the extra case, but 90% of the time I just love the convenience of the smart controller

Each to his/her own for sure.
Personally I’ll continue flying with my 7.85” CS until the SC is produced in that size. I like a better view and mode easily legible info onscreen. Size of the entire device with a screen that size is still easier than setting up my CS and PolarPro mount.

They have to balance size with portability and ergonomics (the SC is smaller than the normal controller + smartphone when in use). Personally I wouldn't want it to be any bigger than it already is, but for those without size/weight constraints in their bags it might be cool if they made an 8" model or something too.

That’s what I wish for.... offered different sizes like they do for the CS.

Yep.

I think it will be like the iPhone back in the day. ...for years they refused to make a big screen like a lot of the Android phones already had.

I'm sure they will soon have a SC with an 8 inch screen or something around that size.

While I hope you get your wish, I have a feeling that iPhone devices are much more popular and millions will sell to users seeking all kinds of sizes. I have a feeling that drones and their smart controllers are not as popular. Although, as pointed out, I guess they did produce the unique Crystal Sky units and in more than one size/brightness.
