Smart watch tethering

Just thought of this idea and was wondering how hard it would be for DJI or Litchi to implement an Apple Watch or similar "smart watches" with gps to be the tethered to use for an advanced version of follow me?

What would be needed to get this to work?

Think to the communication between watch and Mavic. Actual watches have both Bluetooth and WIFI but their range is quite limited because of limited battery capacity.
Although technically no big challenge it makes limited sense.
