I did all the reading ( the entire manual) and watched dozens of Youtube video's with people showing what goes wrong, distance checks, height checks, general stuff and got a pretty good idea what to expect and what can come up and how to correct it. It was invaluable in my opine!

Yesterday took the MM down to the beach where there were lightish winds of about 8-10 mph. I flew largely around 20M high and pushed it down about a mile towards a pier. The further I got the more signal warnings I got which I've learned largely I can push through to an extent. Once I got to about 1 mile the controller lost signal all together, but would occasionally show me some video etc. ( I had 15-17 Sats at all times). I wasn't too worried and the Auto RTH went off and it started to find it's way back. I did get some strong wind warnings by this point so though the RTH brought the MM to 30mm I dropped it back down to 20m to avoid some of the higher winds which seemed to work for the most part.

Here's what I learned first and foremost ( and confirmed it today). When flying away the MM has pretty good signal range with the controller, HOWEVER, on return trips it's not nearly as good and often fails. Even when much closer, in this case even at 2/3rds of the way home I was still getting Low/ No Signal warnings.

I went to a different beach today, and there was virtually no wind so wind was not a factor. I was able to get about 1.6 miles and had only a little interference until I turned around to come back, and then it was tons of signal errors again. Everything is fine of course and she came back home nice and safely...but I wish that the signal strength was as good returning as it is on the way out. And yes, I did have the antenna's in the proper setup making sure the long ends pointed towards the drone (so as to be as perpendicular as possible.

I watched the iPhone screen capture of the voyage, and then the mini's version....the mini's version is far less stressful lol. YOu'd never know I was having so many different issues!

So that's my contribution....thanks for all the tips and advice from everyone here!

Peace!

Visual Line of Sight means you can see it; just sayin.

Try some of those cheapo Mavic Signal reflectors - they seem to improve the signal reliability for me. Also the angle of antenna to aircraft is important. Only signal issues I mostly get now are when its either too far out or directly above me 400ft up and antenna not adjusted to point to it.

well no wonder you had signal issues you said i had the long ends pointed towards the drone, in fact the signal actually comes from the flat sides of the antennas front and back ,so you should have had the flat faces of the antennas pointing in the drones direction not the ends

I meant the flat sides...they are longer than the points.

I too have had signals issues that seemingly shouldn’t be there. I suspect it’s just part of the RC hobby. Good to know the copter continues to record well. ?

Found this tutorial in another post regarding antenna position.
