I like this app, but my subscription is at it’s end. I’m wondering if a different software might be better for photo editing without such small print or learning curve. I have Lightroom, but I’m not that fond of it. I may just stick with this but I was hoping maybe something better is out there. Just for photos not video or steep learning curve.

Have you considered the Photoshop package from Adobe? If you can afford it, Photoshop is the most advanced program out there, with AI features of generative abilities too. I know most of the Mavic Forum people disdain the Adobe business model, but I get almost weekly improvements, full tech support by phone with screen sharing.

...also: Rawtherapee, Photoninja.

Gimp is highly underrated but will handle anything Photoshop can be used for and you don't get Adobe's fingers in your wallet every month (it's freeware).

Very advanced RAW developing and image manipulation with Darktable and Rawtherapee and they're freeware too... but most people are under the impression that the more you pay: the better something is.

Try 'em before you knock 'em.

Thank you for the responses. This will give me some idea of what to look for with these apps.

I am still using Photoshop CS6. Yes, it's old, out dated and lacks the bells and whistles of the newest version, but it was a one time purchase (actually an upgrade from a previous version). I refuse to rent software, including MS Office. I am a home user, not a business. If Adobe offered a reasonably priced upgrade, I would probably bite, but I can't justify $276 a year for something use maybe once a month, if that. OP should stick with one of the freebies listed unless they can expense the cost of a paid subscription.

There are also Student versions of the entire Adobe Suite for a little as $89 per year.

Not that I condone it, but I know a guy who registers for any future community college class, buys the Student version of the Adobe Suite, drops the class before it starts, and gets a full refund of the class tuition. He then retains his proof of enrollment. Student to Adobe means enrolled as a student at any time within the last 6 months for any number of units. He then rinses and repeats this process annually.

Others just have their college kid buy the Student version, and Dad shares the account from home on a desktop, while the kid uses the account at school on his laptop. Adobe allows two installations per account.
