Strange message during RTH

You know, this group has a lot of knowledge and experience at all levels. In the later part of this discussion, there were members that had adult discussions on positives/negatives of RTH use. And they discussed possible reasons for the OP's experience with RTH. This was all great as that is the purpose of these groups, to share experiences and knowledge both positive and negative. What is disturbing, and what IMHO is offensive, and has happened in other threads as well, is when we have supposed adults start calling out other members in a degrading way, and then the argument begins.
It would have been so much simpler and educational to simply say "I never use RTH as I feel it is a crutch, so I refer to others that may have a better answer", or "I use it to get the drone back home, then land manually as RTH sometime has been reported to have issues on landing". If you don't know the answer, or don't agree, simply say that vs criticizing the OP. There are many here with lots of experience, and there are people new in the field, or new with their drone model that are just looking for help or an answer to their question. I almost left the discussion until some of the later posters jumped in. And I have seen groups lose good members because of the discussions becoming animus.
Just venting my observation.
Thanks to all in the group. I have learned a lot from the expertise shared here.

I think another piece of information missing is whether or not the camera flipped down for the landing; I believe the camera, in addition to the VPS, is used for precision landing.

I use RTH frequently with my original MP...I just think it's way cool the way precision landing puts that thing within inches of where it took off...

I have never seen a message like that.

Im hearing you mate.
Some of the members here are just getting ruder, argumentative and at times outright trolling for an arguement. And its coming more from the so called veterans each week. What was once an amazing resource for drone pilots has become just another social media platform full of it inherent crap.
There are still some great members here that contribute positively to the group, but you often need to wade through a lot of b/s to find it these days,
It easy to get post counts up and look like an amazing source of info, when you cut and paste a welcome to every new member, who will prob ‘like’ your effort.

It's important to identify the problem. Is the RTM that failed or precision landing that failed. In the case of the OP I believe that RTH functioned properly; it was precision landing that failed as the landing area was not well identified. RTH is really so convenient and easy.
Read my original post. The landing area was was well identified. My landing pad was the only thing amid a sea of brown, hard, flat, dirt.

SORRY ALL BUT...I don't think its bragging at all. RTH has lost more Drones than any other feature LOL.. Did you Know that as the regulations are written, RTH is actually a very grey area and leans more towards violating or Skirting a regulation then any other feature. I would like to know myself how RTH is legal! I guess it is, somehow? but the only time I ever used it was to "show-off" the feature.
My question is WHY use RTH.. Did your hand all of the sudden become too sore to fly? if you are pushing RTH because you lost site of your Drone, Then you were flying illegally in the first place.
Gadget Guy has a great point IMO. SORRY.

What was under the drone when you got this Warning? (It was a downward sensor warning.) uneven surface, obstacle in the way, too bright or dark, too reflective, etc.....

What regulation would RTH violate?
It is actually referred to in several Part 107 test questions as a preprogrammed Lost Link procedure.

In our Certificate of Waiver and Authorization it is specifically mentioned "Prior to takeoff, the sUAS must be programmed to execute a pre-programmed return-to-home (RTH)command if the signal is lost. The RTH altitude must avoid any obstructions along the RTH route and;".

I do agree 100% with the possibility of losing your drone if you do not read the user manual and know everything there is about your drone's RTH and then train on it before flying in unknown areas.

I am not sure what all the hate is about with RTH. I used it the other day when mapping. Out of 6 flights, I used it 5 times. It takes some of the workload off at times. As with any automated function, you should read the user manual and understand it. It has it uses both as an emergency contingent for a Lost Link and as a part of a long day of data gathering. That being said, I think that it should be used safely and not be abused.
