On a regular basis, but not every flight, I've been getting "Switching to Backup IMU", sometimes followed by "Collision Avoidance not Available." After landing, restarting and reconnecting, everything is OK. Is this a sign of worse things to come? Under 10 hours of flight time with M2P, will still be learning for a long time...

Have you done an IMU calibration recently? If not, give it a try and see if it helps.

Thanks again for the advice. I got a reprieve for a while after calibrating the IMU. The last couple of days, I've recalibrated and reinitialized the IMU several times. Almost every other flight ends up with "Switching to backup IMU" AND loss of obstacle avoidance. Soft landings even in Tripod mode hard to come by. The IMU bars are always green, but the ACC1 & GYRO1 readings are always more than ACC2 & GYRO2. I presume my next step is DJI customer service. N'est-ce pas?

Hi Greg,
I'd like to know if there was a solution which hopefully helped you, anything else besides IMU calibration?
I just had an incident very similar to yours two days ago with my M2Z, IMU backup switch resulting in loss of obstacle avoidance sensors and loss of camera settings - all camera settings displayed as n/a, unable to take photo/record video. Video feed to my device and gimbal tilt/yaw thankfully unaffected. Also landed in tripod mode, harder without the sensors. Definitely would not like to repeat it again.

Just returned from a 3 week trip to photograph the Finger Lakes area of New York State. Made 35 flights in 14 days, all without getting the "Switching to Backup IMU" message. Prior to the trip, I discovered that I may have been mis-interpreting the IMU calibration instructions by placing the M2P in the wrong positions while calibrating. I re-calibrated twice, making sure that I was reading the images correctly. May have been user-error all along. I've never lost control of the camera or the gimbal. I did have to re-calibrate the optical sensors once along the way. Took almost an hour! (Ugh!) Had to re-calibrate the compass many times. Had one odd occurrence with "Go Home" mode, but that's worth another thread.

This re-calibrate the compass I found sometimes switching the AC off than back on it disappears if it doesn't than I re-calibrate
