Hi, I'm quite used to my (excellent) Mini2 now but I have to ask you one thing. If I want to take off with the TX 30meter above and 20m behind the MINI will that work?

Should work as usual if you have good radio contact. Home will still be where the drone is so expect that area to be where it lands. Wondering what you will be on to be that high and why you'd want it to take off from someplace lower rather than, say, your hand up there where you are?

Good questionNetfolks! I'll try to explain. I myself will be on big terass with alot of iron and concret above me on the 3rd floor where I can and stand and get a good visual view of the objects I want to take pics off about 300meter away from where I stand.. But I if have the Mini on the terass too it says "Compass Calibr" and show a significant less nbr of sats. Any other solution?

In places like that I launch from my hand. For instance, my driveway in front has a lot of rebar in the concrete. If I launch from my hand it doesn't seem to mind. As usual, always double check the location on the map. On return to home or any landing I sometimes have to force land in that spot or I just, again, use my hand and grasp it coming down.

Netfolks! Even if I hold the Mini in my hand as far out from the terass as possible, it says "Compass Calibr" and show a significant less nbr of sats." compared to sitting on the ground. So my basic question is not answered.

Are these the first ever flights with this aircraft ?
Have you tried flying this in another location, and same results ?

Does it record the home point ?
If it does, and you can fly safely for a short while, maybe download your txt file and upload it here for someone to check for anything obvious.

If no one can help (if there is a problem), and the drone is still under warranty, it might be that it needs to be returned to DJI (open up a service inquiry) for a look, it could simply be defective.

As others have stated, while some offered alternatives, remotely launching the aircraft from anywhere within signal control will certainly work, and the location of the aircraft at launch will be the home point. I see no problems at all.

Same technique is used to bypass the 500m elevation limit while mountain climbing. Just land in a clearing less than 500m above you, and relaunch remotely to reset the 500m elevation back to zero, while automatically resetting the home point to the new location. You can then climb up to 1000m above your location, or as many multiples of 500m as you have radio control, and places to land and remotely relaunch.

Good luck.

Mavic_South! This is my 5th drone for 4 years and I am an experienced still-pic drone photographer but I have never tried to take-off at this location like I discribed in my question. But I got the answer from Gadget Guy. My Mini works perfect and I have been in the air for more than 100times for at least 30hrs.

That should work easily enough.
Launching from where there's significant magnetic interference and poor GPS could be asking for trouble.
Easiest way to find out would be to try it and see, but there's nothing that should prevent you from what you've described.

Ah, I was replying regarding this . . . it's not a problem ?

I don't know if this is relevant to the OP's situation, but I will often fly from a 2nd floor balcony because it gives me an extended VLOS. It also has brick and steel around it so have to hold it out over the railing to get GPS where I hand launch. However it is a terrible place for a home point. Typically after launch I will land it some place close that I can see and relaunch it, creating a new home point in case of needing to use RTH intentionally of if it kicks in automatically. So going straight away from the balcony I can send my Mini 2 out pretty far, so far no more than 3600 feet, but once it comes past the building the structure interferes and the distance due to reduced radio signal is much more limited.

Thanx Vinibona, great info!! Just what I asked for!

Would love to see some of the pics when this DOES work for you and maybe one of where you are controlling the drone. That would probably help others in the future.

Hi Wildman! It worked great and here is the pic from where I stood. I had the great overview I wanted

Nice job. Kewl picture...looks like a beautiful area. Glad it worked out.

In order to do videos of individual holes on a golf course, I would place my Mini 2 on the tee box. I would then position myself halfway between tee and green and initiate take off. The drone would fly past me on its way to the green while I adjusted direction and altitude.

While I did not have the challenge of iron railings on a balcony, there were no issues taking off or landing several hundred yards away with significant changes in altitude due to the terrain.
