Drones are much cheaper.

Pentagon Still Questioning How Smart to Make Its Drone Swarms

It is good to see the article focusing on the behavior of the swarm. Weapon systems are validated in a very deterministic manner. When this happens, the platform should do that. Autonomous systems are not programmed, they are trained, making their behavior non-deterministic and it differs wildly with the environments. Testing these enough to be confident in their expected behavior is the real challenge for autonomous systems. The technology is rather trivial in comparison.

There's something creepy and unnerving about the sound of the swarm.
