The Mavic Mini is cool but is it good for the hobby?

The problem is with the pilots not the drone. There will always be irresponsible, careless, stupid, etc people that fly drones just as there is with virtually every activity.

On the water they are called "platinum captains" they rent boats way beyond their abilities, skip the weather and navigation briefing then pretty much hit the rocks and blame the boat. SSDD, human nature 101. The mini is a great tool, but like ANY tool users need to understand and respect it's limits. One of the reasons it has so many limits is precisely because it is lowering the entry point for users. Nothing wrong with the product or technology that understanding and thought can not compensate for. (stay healthy all)

I think you are wrong on these adjectives.
The truth is they are ignorant and you can say "well they should find out" but at the start you don't know what you don't know.

Yes, I'm biased, and yes, I think the Mini is good for the hobby.

No desire to bash the mini. In fact I only mention it because I see so many post here and on FB about problems. I haven't taken the time to analyze if the problems are operator error or issues with the mini. My point (forget mini for a moment) is that budget drones could be bad in the sense that more people can throw a drone in the air without many dollars at risk. The extreme is if everyone (for free) had a mini or similar capable drone, what do you think would happen regarding issues with the FAA?

That is using the mentality that those that buy less expensive cars are inept drivers and don’t or won’t follow the rules of the road. Also, that those with deep pockets are better drivers and follow all the traffic laws.

I see this as an affront to those that want to enjoy this hobby but don’t have the means to spend $1500 or more on a UAV system.
