Transmitter Stick Mode

Do I need to have my phone connected to my Transmitter and connection made with my Mavic Air when I change my stick mode ? Or can I change to the mode I want on my phone on DJI Go 4 and expect this to be effective when I next connect my phone to the Transmitter & power up the drone ?

You would have to have everything connected and powered up to change stick mode of the transmitter.
