I was preparing to fly my drone over water today. When I was getting ready to take off, I noticed on the Aloft app that I was near an airplane-shaped chart symbol. I was curious as to what it could be, as it was over the water, and when I zoomed in, it turned out to be a floatplane site. It said "Uncontrolled Seaport. Operational." I decided not to launch there until I could research more about it.
What are best practices when you are flying near a spot like this? I have a Firehouse strobe I can turn on to make my drone more visible to a seaplane that's coming in. I get warnings when manned aircraft are in the vicinity. I was outside the circle around this symbol in Aloft, but near it. Does that give enough room for the seaplane to land and takeoff safely? Has anyone else flown near one of these?
