I have just been using the USB for my Air because the charging port seems fragile. Setting up my M2P and I can't get anything to work from the USB port. Used 3 different cables and no connection. Am I missing something or do I have a bad port/remote?
FYI I was able to do everything through the charging port, and no, I never had both the charging cable and USB cable plugged in at the same time.

Which port on the controller are you using, and if it's the bottom port are you removing the cable plugged into the side port?

There is only 1 USB port on the controller that I am aware of and no, as stated earlier I have never had the charging cable and USB cable plugged in at the same time.

Odd , I have had mine after powering up and the app not connect ,changed cords and same thing.
What I did was just unplug the cable from my TX and plug it back in and heard the sound of it connecting . Does it every now and then and don't have a clue why but is what it does .
just throwing a rock in the pond but try it .
Other than that if you have tried 3 different cables and I mean as in from not the same brand
something is wrong with the USB on your TX .
Maybe spray some electronic cleaner into that USB port or Deoxit .
Just a thought being it wouldn't hurt .Good luck with it .

I sense a misconception here.
There are two USB ports on the remote, not just one.
On the side is micro-USB A port used for connecting a device using the included short cables, and for charging.
There's the full-sized USB A port on the front (towards you) used for connecting a device. This port is disabled when you have a short cable plugged in the side port, even if said short cable is not connected to a device. The front port cannot be used for charging the AC, but will provide power to a device even when disabled for data due to the side cable.

Yeah 3 different Apple USB cables and they all work with my Air RC. I will see if I have any electronic cleaner in the shop. Thanks.

Well this could be embarrassing. I always have the charging port plugged in but not to the Ipad while using the full sized USB on my Air remote. You're saying the M2P is different? Checking...

Nothing can be plugged in to that side port if using the usb like he said. I removed that cable from my handle as I only use the USB port .

Well... I can tell you that I fly using the big USB port with my Air and the small port is always plugged in (but not to device) and it works.
Unplugged the side port on the M2P and presto, the big USB now connects. I should have tried this no doubt but I did not see how it would be a problem. Thanks!

Yep.
Not that it is relevant at this point but I fly my Air this way all the time using the big USB. I like having the small port covered.

Actually, I have been able to leave one of those magnetic usb "heads" plugged into the side (charging) port and still connect using the larger bottom port to connect to my tablet. I have not tried leaving the rest of the magnetic cable attached.

You can use the side port for charging at the same time you use the bottom port, that would be using it as type B.
The side port can operate as type A or type B. The short cable must have a jumper or something to switch to switch the port to type A, which would then conflict with the full size A port. Otherwise without the short cable, it operates as type B, despite physically being micro-A.
Type A is an initiator, such as you'd expect from a PC. Type B is a target, such as you would expect from a peripheral, like a drive, printer, or phone/tablet.
OTG adapters for phones turn the type B mode on a phone to type A.
